‘breaking news’ is the latest single by up-and-coming musician flowerovlove, singing angelically of falling head-over-heels for a new love.

Her saccharine lyrics are matched perfectly by the rhythmic drum beat, covered in a syrupy production that adds to the lovestruck atmosphere that’s refreshing in the age of heart-wrenching chart hits. flowerovlove, real name Joyce Cisse, is an indie dream-pop artist from South London and Côté d'Ivoire, often singing feel-good tunes informed by a hopelessly romantic view, which sets her apart from many of the voices in the music scene.  

The song’s music video, which sits on 175,000 views, has been praised by fans for its “lovergirl” aesthetic, something she’s making her signature across her releases - from ‘BOYS’ to ‘Coffee Shop’. With nods to The Princess Diaries (2001) and a feel evocative of Netflix’s 2022 show Heartstopper, her appeal to the soft-hearted members of Gen Z through her bedroom pop sound is crystal clear. 

Yet the artistry isn’t the sole reason that she’s reached over 750k monthly listeners on Spotify, as her glowing personality and fashionable style are documented across her growing social media pages. Cisse’s multi-faceted appeal sees her as not just a musician but as a model slash stylist, with a Universal Music contract, Paris Fashion Week catwalk and a Gucci beauty campaign under her belt.

Her bright intuition mixes with a self-assured attitude through the lyrics to ‘breaking news,’ with her boldly “telling everyone [she] know[s]” about her newfound love, as she thinks she’s “gonna love you for a very long time.” It’s hard to not be charmed by her attitude.

The song has received glowing reviews from major-label artists, like SZA, who will likely become her peers over the next few years as the flowerovlove project is clearly on an upward trajectory to stardom.
