Broken Bones - Rosie Gault
Single Review
By Alex Walden
Rosie Gault takes a new approach to writing about love in her latest track Broken Bones. While still using love stories as inspiration, Rosie takes a new direction by using her lyrical abilities to give us a raw and heartfelt story about the complications and emotional wildcards that love can offer us.
Rosie Gault best describes the song in her press release with the description ‘It's a love story through the lens of feeling flawed, something a little less sweet and more complex’, and the lyrics show exactly that. Lyrics such as “I never really had, someone to call my own, I’ll make a mess of it, and I’ll cry down the phone” give us an unsettling yet authentic insight into the tricky path that is love which isn’t discussed as openly as it should be within mainstream media. Love isn’t always perfect, as the verb states you have to literally fall in love and that isn’t easy for everyone, Rosie encapsulates exactly that.
While these lyrics carry a lot of weight and have an incredibly polarising effect. It is through the lightness of the instrumental that they are able to achieve this. The influences of artists such as Taylor Swift and Masie Peters are clear as day as simplistic acoustic harmonies gently glide through the track which give us a stripped back feel to match the vibe of vulnerability of authenticity. This song isn’t packed with flashy effects and mind-blowing instrumentals to keep you interested. This song is soft, its easy going, its authentic. At first listen you might not see it immediately; in fact you could even argue that it sounds lacklustre but believe me it grows on you.
