Dim Lights - Rosie Gault
Single Review
By Holly Farmer
Step inside “classic big dream, small town girl” Rosie Gault’s diary with her new track ‘Dim Lights’.
After moving from Lincolnshire to London to study music, Gault has garnered the skills to share her self-expression and emotions through her songs. Written for a short film following the love story of two women, ‘Dim Lights’ was influenced by both her experiences and the film’s script.
This dreamy track features sentimental piano, flowing alongside Gault's soft vocals and smooth string arrangements. The track's building layers reveal Gault’s appreciation of music theory and you feel as though you are being gently lifted into the song.
As you reach the chorus, there’s an ethereal haziness that feels like a daydream, perhaps a daydream about a lover you can only meet in the “Dim Lights”. The song progresses and faint harmonies chime in, adding another layer of intricate beauty to the track. There’s an embedded sense of innocence in the love story of the song that feels so simplistic yet raw. Its stripped-back ending leaves you with just strings and piano, slowly fading you out of that dream-like state.
Gault says, “When someone tells me they found comfort in my music, it makes me happier than anything.” I strongly think that Gault has successfully created a comfort song that I’m sure many will have on repeat. I look forward to seeing what she has in store for the rest of the year!
