Dreamer - Sabrina Ives

Single Review

By Emily Jordan

If you’re looking for a song to fuel your folklore fairytale fantasies, ‘Dreamer’ by Sabrina Ives is the perfect new track for you.

Delivered with a gentle twang and a near whisper-like quality, ‘Dreamer’ sings of not wanting to face the painful reality of everyday life, wishing to stay in a peaceful utopia. Its lyrics reflect the soundscape of the track almost perfectly and listening to the song is like dipping into a William Wordsworth poem.

The track is also reminiscent of early works by The Civil Wars, with the soothing strum of the guitar that echoes throughout the song.

Ives, from Perth, Australia, has an endearing voice and a sweet writing style. However, as the track reaches the four-minute mark, it stretches on just a little bit too long. The fairytale feelings evoked just aren’t rich enough to carry the listener through the song while maintaining their full attention.

However, the track fits well into Ives’ discography and remains pleasant to listen to - but it is just a touch too long for the average listener.
