He’s My Man - Luvcat
By Irina Atanasiu
Liverpool-born musician Luvcat has released her much awaited second single ‘He’s My Man’, accompanied by a captivating and chilling music video.
Sonically, the track is reminiscent of other acts such as Leonard Cohen and The Cure as well as beebadoobee and early Mars Argo. Luvcat’s soft and sensual vocals coupled with the increasingly powerful guitar-driven instrumental deliver a unique blend of female-fronted alternative rock that is both invigorating and soothing for the listener.
The lyrics talk about a woman that has become obsessed with her partner to the point where she wants to poison him and make him ill in order to make him stay with her forever. The lyric “I stay home and make his dinner, even though somehow he keeps gettin thinner” paints a picture of a housewife that is purposefully making her husband’s dinners unfulfilling in order to cause him to lose weight. The lyric “I want him to stay here forever, he’s happiest with me” suggests that the woman is unable to accept that her partner has a life outside of being with her and desires to be her husband’s only source of happiness.
All in all, the track is very strong both lyrically and sonically and is very successful at painting a chilling story about an obsessive woman with serious jealousy issues regarding her husband that have driven her to insanity. This is a promising start for Luvcat’s career as an alternative-rock artist.
