I’m Not Scared - The Magic Gang
‘I’m Not Scared’, is a new-for-us but old-for-them single by The Magic Gang. This single kicks off the band’s goodbye celebrations and sets the scene for their farewell gigs, which begin in Glasgow on May 21.
As the song begins, the listener is transported back in time to the beginning days of The Magic Gang with the simple song structure and the “indie”, airy vocals. The songs lyrics the standard hopeful, positive tone The Magic Gang are beloved for.
The song is a comforting and optimistic call from the band to let go of worries with the message of “I’m not scared anymore” and here is how I did it “Let me tell you why, so you’ll feel alright”. The line “maybe its another thing in your head to forget” evokes the image of overthinking and overanalysing, which are habits anxious individuals usually possess. The chorus suggests letting things in life unfold organically without anxiety “it could all happen naturally” accompanied by the cheery and repetitive line of “better you know, better you know that”.
The second verse opens tenderly with “don’t be scared anymore, days like these will pass and some day we’ll laugh”, reminding the listener that even the darkest of times will end and that you will be okay.
‘I’m Not Scared’ is a catchy tune, reminiscent of ‘Feeling Better’ and ‘Only Waiting’ and will likely become a favourite amongst the older fans for the feelings of nostalgia it brings. The Magic Gang have teased online that they have some more news coming, would it be selfish of us to hope it will be some more new songs?
