May - Leave Quietly
Single Review
By Susie Long
Releasing their third single in February, Milton Keynes-based Leave Quietly has a sound that feels polished, well-tailored and, quite frankly, like they have been putting music out for a lot longer than just a year.
The newest addition to Leave Quietly’s discography, May, is an optimistic, upbeat track that feels perfectly timed with the sunshine returning. A song that wouldn’t feel out of place in an indie movie soundtrack, it is the perfect balance of jangly, upbeat guitar, subtly blended harmonies and a youthful performance quality.
The band said that this track is “a reminder of how quickly time goes by and how easily it can repeat itself”. Whilst the song does capture this slightly bittersweet, nostalgic sort of introspection, Leave Quietly has done this in a way that doesn’t feel nihilistic or downbeat.
Instead, they revel in this transiency, celebrating the present and the past simultaneously with a bright, rousing record.
