Official Shannon is someone who I’ve crossed paths with in the industry for a while now and surprisingly this is her first full ep! What better way to start than with a Christmas album!

Shannon is another Musical Theatre girly turned pop, and as I have said before, this makes for technically brilliant vocals and an exciting show!

Leading up to the release of this EP you can expect exciting visuals and promo videos (I’ve seen some, they are lit.) Shannon has also partnered up with the brilliant Independent Musicians Collective on this EP

Track 1 of the Higher Love EP is none other than the classic gospel hymn ‘His Eye Is on The Sparrow’ made popular by arguably the best sequel of all time… Sister act 2, Back in the Habit!

This song is the perfect choice to showcase Shannon’s incredible voice and vocal acrobatics. With just a piano to accompany her she really puts her own spin on the track. It is clean, pure and ethereal and her tone is TONEING! 

Sticking with the Sister Act 2 theme, for Track 2 Shannon puts her own spin on that classic choral number ‘Joyful, Joyful!’

Lauryn Hill’s iconic opening phrase is a hard act to follow however Shannon comes through with some new exciting riffs including an exciting opt up on the last bar

As soon as the drums came in my inner choir girl was already throwing off her choir robes and preparing the classic routine in my head. AND ENTER THE CHOIR (The Independent Musicians Collective or the IMC. This song never fails to excite me and Shannon, and her choir of dreams did not disappoint.

Track 3 takes us on to ‘The Color Purple Reprise’ featuring the Independent Musicians Collective as her stunning ensemble.

This is a track originally from the gorgeous musical of the same name. The Color Purple is one of my favourite shows, books and films (of all time) and this is a stunning rendition of a beautiful song. The IMC as the choir throughout this song is simply breath-taking!

Shannon is really embracing her musical theatre roots with this next song from another of my favourite musicals, Shannon and IMC bring us ‘Seasons of Love’ from Jonathan Larsons RENT the musical. Shannon takes on the iconic solos with heart, soul and skill and the soloist from IMC who tackles Collins’ tricky second verse needs a massive round of applause!!!

Finishing the EP is her single from the album which I reviewed previously (add link) the title song ‘Higher Love’

Overall, Shannon’s Higher Love EP is a wholesome homage to her musical influences. She leans into her musical theatre roots and draws inspiration from gospel and pop creating a gorgeous Christmassy fusion!
