Rabbit Hole - Lillvi

Single Review

By Eli Andrew

‘Rabbit Hole’ by Lillvi (a mononym for Lillvi Agnarsson) continues to build on the darker sound the artist has been developing for much of 2024. It’s a track you can imagine filling dance floors at a dim, moody rave, but could equally complement a brooding, late-night bus ride home. Headphones in and volume up.

It is a far cry from 2022’s ‘Liquid Attraction’, an 80s-inspired effort more akin to Madonna. There is a certain versatility to Lillvi’s style, with Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga electro-pop influences evident, but edgier, more gothic. Syncopated drum rhythms and breakbeats are driving yet subdued, and Lillvi’s vocals glide over them like a spectral Cyndi Lauper.

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Lillvi’s style will naturally draw comparisons to the synth-pop of compatriot’s Robyn and Tove Lo, but ultimately, the murky atmosphere created on ‘Rabbit Hole’ is more reminiscent of the ethereal sounds of electronica heavyweight Burial. The track echoes and swirls in the background, immersive and captivating much like Burial’s seminal ‘Archangel’. Seemingly able to transition between genres with relative ease, Lillvi isn’t limited in where she can take her sound in 2025.
