Reach Out -

Ron Briskin

Single Review

By Irina Atanasiu

Israeli musician Ron Briskin explores feelings of anxiety and loneliness in his new single ‘Reach Out’. The song explores the feeling of wanting to reach out to a loved one during a bad mental health episode but feeling unable to do so, which is something that a lot of people struggle with and can relate to.

Briskin’s music is reminiscent of indie-rock music from the 2000’s, what with him taking influence from bands such as The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. Briskin’s energetic vocal performance works well with the dynamic instrumental, delivering a compelling and catchy track that is bound to get stuck in listeners’ minds for a while.

The lyrics in this track are descriptive and straightforward, highlighting Briskin’s talent for songwriting. There is a clear element of self-awareness in lyrics such as “easier to run away than to embrace your smile”. The lyric “to reach out, I don’t know how” which repeats in every chorus is effective at transmitting that feeling of helplessness that many of us have experienced in moments of anxiety. Lyrics such as “my trash is piling up, anxiety’s building up” create a strong element of relatability that is present in much of Briskin’s music.

All in all, ‘Reach Out’ is a very strong track both melodically and lyrically, with a strong element of relatability. Briskin’s earlier EPs and singles do not disappoint either, leaving listeners eager to see what else this emerging indie-rock artist has in store for the future.
