Stronger - Rose White

Single Review

By Emily Jordan

With a voice fit for the Eurovision stage, Rose White’s latest single ‘Stronger’ drips with soul and character.

The London-based-but-Poland-born singer-songwriter has ushered her next single to the stage, following up May’s ‘Tears of Regret’ with a punchy and up-beat track that showcases her sonic versatility and clear creative direction.

Produced by her frequent collaborator Mat Leppanen, Stronger showcases White’s stunning vocals. If you were to compare her delivery to the likes of Amy Winehouse or Emeli Sande, you would accurately begin to encapsulate her sound. Her delivery is also reminiscent of fellow-Londoner Lily Allen, with her witty lyricism and charmingly blunt quality.

The bright, sparkling drum beat that drives the song is catchy, and I found myself bobbing along to it whilst listening to the track on repeat. White describes a past lover as “a pretty face, I rest my case” in a sultry tone, but her relief in having escaped them is crystal clear.

Lyrically, the song has the same unique charm which spans her whole discography. The song, and her wider catalogue, would fit it perfectly in a Soho jazz bar. You can almost imagine White wrapped around a mic-stand, with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of white wine in the other.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one day, when she releases a full length record, White cements herself as one to watch in the cross-pop-soul-funk scene.
