Technicolo(u)r - Chris Lanzon
Single Review
By Emily Jordan
In a hazy dreamscape, Chris Lanzon’s single ‘Technicolo(u)r’ sounds like a quiet confessional ripped straight out of the most vulnerable pages in his diary.
The indie-pop singer’s music bleeds sincerity, with his discography gaining critical praise for his sultry melodies and resonant songwriting. The infatuation explored in his narratives cut deep for anyone with a crush, and the gentle arrangement of his instrumentation adds to a far-away feeling.
The title of the track has an interesting story, with the stylisation of it stemming from his Australian background. The decision to add the ‘u’ came from a fan comment on a live-stream, where he was expressing uncertainty about whether to use the British or Americanised spelling. A fan suggested he add the ‘(u)’ which he then turned into a dual meaning, acknowledging the song’s near-obsessive desire for its romantic partner.
Saying, “I want to know your creases, just like I know my hands,” the theme of intense attraction continues throughout the song, and across the wider EP, Angel Litany, which dropped in September.
With a sound that could very easily blossom alongside his growing confidence, Lanzon could easily cement himself amongst artists such as Keshi or Cavetown very soon.
