Too Little, Too Late - Ruby Vectra

Single Review

10 months on from the release of her first EP things she left behind, Ruby Vectra is back with her brand new single ‘Too Little, Too Late’. A gentle, melodic single which beautifully encapsulates the turbulence and uncertainty that often shadows you through your mid/late twenties. The anxiety of feeling as though you are falling behind your friends, not living life the way you think you ought to be or that you are living life in the wrong way altogether, are feelings I am confident we are all familiar with.

The melancholic opening to the song provides the perfect setting for the diary-like lyrics, which have become signature to Vectra’s music. The soft, tender vocals of Vectra in the opening verses provides the track with a more intimate feel, especially when paired with such vulnerable lyrics. The heartbreaking lines ‘feels like my childhood ties are breaking, one by one’, ‘feels like I’m too little, too late, falsifying my fate’ and ‘I’m trying too hard, why did I even start?’ are so utterly relatable, it feels as though it could be a page from your own diary.

As the song progresses, the tempo picks up and we receive a more layered and textured sound. Even from Vectra’s first EP we can already hear the ways she is beginning to grow and change as an artist, with her sound evolving in this track. We cannot wait to see what else Ruby has in store for 2025!

Ruby Vectra’s new single has taken the common anxiety of being ‘left behind’ and transformed it into a wonderful albeit melancholic track. Sure to make the perfect addition to more gloomy playlists, Vectra’s track is a beautiful reminder that we are not alone in these feelings and despite what we may imagine, most people feel this way too.
